Pacific Gas Signed Two Ultra-large Ethane Carrier Projects

On December 3, Pacific Gas and China State Shipbuilding Corporate Limited (“CSSC”) signed Two Ultra-large Ethane Carrier (VLEC) Projects in Shanghai. Zhao Xianfu, deputy secretary of CPC SDMG Committee and general manager of SDMG, and Yu Bing, vice general manager of SDMG, witnessed the signing ceremony.

The two VLEC signed will provide ethane transportation service for INEOS Group. As a globally leading petrochemical corporation, INEOS Group has set up multiple petrochemical production bases across the world, and plans to build a new ethane cracker plant and propane dehydrogenation plant in the future. This is the largest investment of INEOS Group thus far and Europe’s first new cracker plant in the past 20 years.

As the world’s third and China’s first VLEC building project in the shipping market, this project will adopt the VLEC independently developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipyard. The 99,000-m3 “Brilliance” Type B technology of Jiangnan Shipyard will be used for the first time in the world, representing the world’s greatest volume of carriers. As the first high-tech shipbuilding project since the inauguration of CSSC, this project will be a milestone in the Chinese shipping market, ethane market and VLEC building.
